Allen Sparkman

Allen Sparkman graduated with honors from Princeton University and received his law degree with high honors from the University of Texas. He has practiced law for over thirty-five years in the areas of estate, tax, business, insurance, asset protection, and philanthropic planning matters for individuals, farmers, ranchers, businesses, and nonprofit organizations throughout Colorado and in several other states and foreign countries. Allen maintains an active practice in the Firm’s Houston office as well its Denver office.

Allen speaks regularly on entity selection, ethics, estate planning, asset protection, and philanthropic planning topics at accredited continuing legal education seminars. He is the author of numerous articles, including "Asset Protection," in SCHMIDT PRESERVING YOUR WEALTH: A GUIDE TO COLORADO PROBATE & ESTATE PLANNING (2003), "Family Business Entities," in COLORADO ESTATE PLANNING HANDBOOK (2003), "Professional Service Companies," in THE PRACTITIONER'S GUIDE TO COLORADO BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS (2003), "Family Business Entities: Preserving Wealth and Minimizing Taxes," in the November, 2003 issue of The Colorado Lawyer, "Choice of Entity from an Estate Planning Perspective," in the October 2001 issue of The Colorado Lawyer, "Choice of Entity for Healthcare Professionals" in the September 2000 issue of The Colorado Lawyer, and "Update on Choice of Entity for Healthcare Professionals," in the October, 2002 issue of The Colorado Lawyer.

Allen is a member of the American, Colorado, Denver, and Boulder Bar Associations, the State Bar of Texas, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the Colorado Association of Corporate Counsel, the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council, and the Boulder County Estate Planning Council. Allen is immediate past chair of the Business Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association and is a past chair of the Agricultural and Rural Law Section and Health Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association. He is a past President of the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council. He is an active member of the Colorado Secretary of State's Advisory Committee for Business and Commercial Laws and the Legislative Drafting Committee of the Business Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association. Allen is the Colorado reporter for STATE LIMITED PARTNERSHIP LAWS and STATE LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY LAWS, published by Aspen Law & Business.

Allen is a Fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation. He is a volunteer attorney for Colorado Lawyers' for the Arts. Allen has served as a board member of several charitable organizations and currently is a board member of Denver’s jazz public radio station, KUVO, Jazz 89. He enjoys writing, photography, and hiking. Allen regularly attends St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Denver and is a member of Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston.
